Allstate Arena has gone Green, and we are committed to helping YOU, our fans, learn
how and why. Sustainability is a necessary and beneficial part of today's world,
and we are doing our part by conserving energy, recognizing the value of recyclables
and reducing the environmental impact of our purchasing.
We look forward to fans participating in our recycling program later this summer,
further advancing our resource and landfill conservation.

BRIGHT BEAT
Go Green At Allstate Arena
Take public transportation to the arena.
Coordinate with friends and family to car-pool to events… maybe in a hybrid car!
Turn off your car ignition when your car is in Park - don't idle.
Do not leave waste or recyclable items in the parking lot.
If you smoke, place your extinguished cigarette butts in the appropriate receptacle.
All bottes and clear cups purchased at the Allstate Arena are made from 20% post-consumer
recyled PET (#1) plastic, and should be disposed of in the proper GREEN recycling
receptacles.
If unsure which receptacle to use, ask any of our staff or Recycling Ambassadors
wearing the "Green For A Reason" buttons.
Enjoy yourself! And you will make a positive impact on your entertainment environment.
Sustainability Initiatives
Recycling
ALLSTATE ARENA HAS DIVERTED OVER 70 TONS of cardboard, aluminum, glass, plastic
& paper from waste in 2010.
A GROUND-BREAKING CUP RECYCLING PROGRAM was launched in July, 2010. You can be confident
that every clear cup and bottle placed in a green recycling bin at Allstate Arena
is staying out of a landfill. Over 130,000 cups were recycled already, and with
help from our partners at Aramark, Solo Cup Company and Pepsi, the cup recycling
rate will greatly increase in 2011.
Energy Efficiency
Allstate Arena has replaced or retrofitted over 500 lamps and fixtures and begun
installation of occupancy sensors throughout the facility, providing a reduction
of more than 50,000 watts.
Upgrading a 100 Ton HVAC control system has improved efficiency, accuracy in monitoring
and increased the life span of the equipment.
Efficiency upgrades to kitchen refrigeration equipment will reduce their energy
usage by as much as 10%.
We were awarded a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity
in conjunction with these advances in energy efficiency.
Reduce/Reuse Promotions and Proper Disposal of Hazardous Waste
Allstate Arena is working with tenants, industry partners and our fans to REDUCE
and REUSE by collecting items such as shoes, glasses, books, coats, used pens and
markers. We also properly dispose of hazardous waste such as cell phones, fluorescent
bulbs, and more… collecting over 125 lbs of batteries in a recent promotion.
Reasons To Be Green
Recycling helps the Earth. It saves natural resources and animal habitat,
reduces the amount of trash produced, generates less air and water pollution and
consumes less energy than using virgin materials. Eco-Cycle
Recycling prevents global warming. In 2000, recycling of solid waste prevented
the release of 32.9 million metric tons of carbon equivalent (MMTCE, the unit of
measure for greenhouse gases) into the air. National Recycling Coalition
Recycling creates jobs. More than 56,000 recycling and reuse enterprises
employ 1.1 million workers nationwide, totaling a $236 billion a year industry.
National Recycling Coalition
Recycling nineteen plastic (PET) beverage bottles yields enough fiber for
one extra large t-shirt, one square foot of carpet, or enough fiber-fill to fill
one ski jacket. NAPCOR
Recycling just one aluminum can uses only 5% of the energy required to make
a new one, saving enough energy to operate a TV for 3 hours. Eco-Cycle
Recycling glass instead of making it from silica sand reduces mining waste
by 70%, water use by 50%, and air pollution by 20%. Environmental Defense Fund
Recycling Paper: Americans use 85,000,000 tons of paper a year; about 680
pounds per person. Recycling Revolution
Recycling 1 ton (2000 pounds) of paper saves 17 trees (which can absorb 250
pounds of carbon dioxide from the air each year), 2 barrels of oil (enough to run
the average car for 1,260 miles), 4,100 kilowatts of energy (enough power for the
average home for 6 months), 3.2 cubic yards of landfill space and 60 pounds of air
pollution. Trash to Cash
Recycling and buying recycled products creates demand for more recycled products,
decreasing waste and helping our economy.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle...
Environmental Realities, Sad But True
The average American discards seven and a half pounds of garbage every day. Most
of this garbage goes into landfills, where it's compacted and buried. National Recycling
Coalition
The U.S. is 5% of the world's population, but uses 25% of its natural resources.
Environmental Protection Agency
Americans throw away enough aluminum to rebuild our entire commercial fleet of airplanes
every 3 months. Environmental Defense Fund
If every household in the U.S. replaced just one roll of 1,000 sheet virgin fiber
bathroom tissues with 100% recycled ones, we could save: 373,000 trees, 1.48 million
cubic feet of landfill space, and 155 million gallons of water. Seventh Generation

system. National Forest Protection Alliance
